FAQ

  • Is it easy to put a guide on a rod using the KFRG system?

A: The KFRG system is very easy and quick to use and in fact it has taken
longer to remove an old broken guide from a rod than to install a new one on
the rod using the KFRG system. It is something that can be done sitting down on
a jetty, in the boat or almost anywhere, and for most people it takes between
five and ten minutes to install and have you or someone else back fishing. We
think the system is so simple a child who can handle a knife to remove the
broken rod guide will be able to install the KFRG (we assume parents or
guardians know the capabilities of children under their care and make that
assessment, so we do not place an age here).

  • Will the KFRG kit handle all conditions?

A:   We have tested the magic tape used in KFRG
in -80°C right through to +50°C and found that if covered with the vinyl
covering tape there is no decline in effectiveness. These tests were conducted
over months so we are confident that a rod guide fitted using the KFRG system
will be able to handle regular fishing conditions.

  • Will salt-water affect the guide?

A:  Salt water does perish rubber and the magic tape used in the KFRG
kits is rubberised so it might stand to reason that over time the constant use
of salt water may affect performance, however if rinsed after each use in fresh
water to remove the salt, we have found that the rod guides are as rigid and
functional after a year as they were the day they were put on the fishing rod.
If used as a semi-permanent replacement of a broken rod guide we are satisfied
that the KFRG will perform as expected. Over the longer term of years, the
magic tape may need to be replaced should it degrade.

  • Why is there double-sided tape on the feet of each guide on the KFRG kits?

A:  The reason for this is two fold.
First with the double sided tape, you can place the rod guide in place on the
rod and it will stick there so you have time and capacity to begin the
stretching and binding of the magic tape that covers the feet and holds them to
the rod. The alignment of the guide with the rest on the rod is critical and
after binding one foot it is advisable to check the alignment of the guide you
are binding to ensure it lines up with all other guides on the rod, before
commencing to bind the second foot. The tape also adds to the cohesion the guide
has with the rod when the binding is complete. The Second reason for the double
sided tape is to protect your rod. Under-binding between the guide and the
blank is normally used on good rods to protect the graphite or carbon composite
rod from touching steel, because the steel will damage the rod and over time
there is a possibility that the rod will break (like explode). The double sided
tape adds a layer between the steel and the rod allowing the continuous bending
and flexing of the rod as is normal. KFRG aims to ensure your rod lasts each
fishing trip without any problems.

  • Do we take feedback?

A:We can only improve something if
we know there is a problem or even offer the experience of others to the many
who will use this products if it is communicated so please do! We hope you enjoy using
Kwik-Fix Rod Guide and would like to hear back from you whenever you have the
time. Regards the KFRG Team.
